Si quieres saber de qu\u00e9 estamos hablando, sigue leyendo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nos dicen que hay que cerrar la llave del lavabo cuando nos lavamos los dientes, que nos ba\u00f1emos en cinco minutos o que utilicemos solo una cubeta para lavar el coche; y que de esta forma podemos ahorrar agua. No obstante, el agua utilizada en las <strong>actividades dom\u00e9sticas es apenas el 4% del tota<\/strong>l de agua que utilizamos cada d\u00eda. El otro <strong>96% corresponde al uso indirecto del agua, a la que se conoce como agua virtual<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>El agua virtual<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>El agua virtual se refiere a aquella <strong>cantidad total de agua que se usa para producir un bien o servicio<\/strong>.\u00a0 Es decir, es el agua que no se ve a simple vista en el producto final pero que fue utilizada en maquinaria, riego, transportaci\u00f3n y otros.<\/p>\n<p>En M\u00e9xico, <strong>un kilogramo de trigo requiere un promedio de 1,000 litros de agua<\/strong>, mientras que <strong>un kilogramo de carne de res requiere 13,500 litros<\/strong> (CONAGUA, 2014); estos valores pueden variar seg\u00fan el pa\u00eds. Lo que es claro es que los productos c\u00e1rnicos utilizan mucha m\u00e1s agua en su producci\u00f3n que los granos. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9? \u00a0Esto se debe a la<strong> huella h\u00eddrica<\/strong>, que se refiere a un indicador del agua utilizada para producir alimentos o bienes, incluyendo los procesos industriales y generadores de energ\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>Para comprender la huella h\u00eddrica, analicemos\u00a0 a la industria c\u00e1rnica. <strong>La huella h\u00eddrica de una vaca (para producci\u00f3n de carne) es de 3\u2019100,000 litros<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/ah2019.lossilvestresnosonmascotas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/cow-3454611_1920-300x200-1.jpg\" alt=\"La imagen tiene un atributo ALT vac\u00edo; su nombre de archivo es cow-3454611_1920-300x200-1.jpg\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" \/>En un sistema de producci\u00f3n industrial de carne, toma en promedio <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">tres a\u00f1os<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> antes de que el animal sea sacrifi\u00adcado <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">para producir unos 200 kg<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> de carne deshuesada. El animal consume cerca de<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> 1,300 kg de granos<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> (trigo, avena, cebada, ma\u00edz, chicharos secos, harina de soya y otros granos peque\u00f1os), <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">7,200 kg de forrajes<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\"> (pastos, heno seco, ensilaje y otros), <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">24 m\u00b3 de agua para beber y 7 m\u00b3 de agua para mantenimiento<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: inherit;\">. Esto signifi\u00adca que para producir un kilogramo de carne de vacuno deshuesada, utilizamos alrededor de 6.5 kg de grano, 36 kg de forrajes y 155 litros de agua (s\u00f3lo para consumo y mantenimiento). La sola producci\u00f3n de los granos necesarios como alimento requiere de 15,300 litros de agua en promedio.
